The annual EMERGENCY MEDICAL CHALLENGE is happening again!!

This is your chance to test out your first aid/emergency skills and for first years, to save/kill your first simulated patient. Teams will compete with prizes given on the basis of teamwork and emergency care in realistic emergency first aid situations. Don’t worry if you’re not an ED hardened warrior - we’re not doctors yet so it’s all about showing up and having a go. (On the other hand if you are an ED hardened warrior, come show us what you’ve got!)

Students from ALL year levels are encouraged to enter! There are only limited places allocated to each year group and it is first in first served. Email your name to rosanna.olsen to enter. Teams will be organised to include students from all years.

There are a certain number of places available for victims/simulated patients. No acting skill is required, only enthusiasm! This job is great fun and all the love and care of a whole team of people is focused on you, all at once… as you scream like a child, decorated with fake blood! Email rosanna.olsen if you want to be a patient.
Of course if you don’t want to compete and don’t feel like screaming, you are encouraged to simply come and watch the spectacle!
And if pumping adrenaline and emergency medicine is your thing, Defence Force Recruiting will be a giving a presentation on the night all about a medical career in uniform.

This is a FREE event and a light supper will be provided. So enter now for the chance at fame, glory, a great prize, and an awesome adrenaline filled night!

The AMSA National Teaching & Student Awards champion, respectively, excellence in medical education & the contributions that medical students make to their local community and the wider nation. Submissions are due June 12 2010.

The AMSA National Teaching Award champions excellence in medical education. In the current medico-political climate, nothing is more valuable to medical students than quality teaching. The single Award is given to an individual deemed to have made a very significant contribution to medical education in Australia, as determined by students themselves.

The AMSA National Student Award recognises the excellent contributions that medical students make to their local community and the wider nation. This Award is judged on the personal, academic and professional achievements of the nominees. Consideration is also given to leadership qualities.

Any medical student, on approval of the nominee’s Medical Students’ Society, can nominate any educator or medical student for the Awards, which is ultimately judged by the AMSA National Council at Second Council before the National Convention each year.

Submissions are due June 12 2010. All the details are on Blackboard MedSoc in the AMSA Folder under the Documents tab to the left, or check out www.amsa.org.au
